Shown here is Benjamin Taylor Starace, grandson of our President, Nick
Starace, presenting his first ship model, which he named BENJAMIN. Benjamin told us he
built the model with the assistance of his Dad when he was 5 years old. He also told the
membership how he built it and then painted it. Moreover, it is scratch built. He went on
to say that he helped his brother Brian build his sail boat.
During the March 26, 2002 meeting, Benjamin was voted into membership, at which time he
was two weeks short of his sixth birthday. How’s that for young blood? The young lad
has the distinction of being the youngest member of the SMSNNJ, ever! Incidentally, the
"B" on the sail stands for Benjamin’s favorite word, "bedtime."
